Where are you from?

Got to love this question. I get ask this question daily.

Sometimes I answer straight away while other times I get the person to guess where I am from. Some counties they think I am from are:

– England
– New Zealand
– Canada

And the latest was Jamaica. I mean Jamaica, really? Have they seen cool runnings? Do I look like I am getting in a bob sled?

In any case when they find out it is Australia they say 3 things-

1- ” Ooh I would love to go to Australia”

2- ” Isn’t Australia where the most deadly animals in the world are? “

3- ” My friend owns a pub in Melbourne, can’t remember the name, would you know it?”

Then that leads into questions that blow my mind.

how long does it take to drive from Sydney to Auckland along the bridge?

is it true you drive kangaroos to work?

planning my trip to Australia. Thought about having lunch in Alice Springs but need to be in Adelaide for dinner, only a 4 hour drive right?

who’s that guy who was in Crocodile Dundee and put’s shrimp on the BBQ? Is he gay?

I ask myself where are they getting there information from?

When questions get asked it can go two ways in responding, either correct the information or go with it. Or a bit of column a and a bit of column b.

I am proud to be Australian and feel it is my duty to correct information however it is hard to response without smiling.

I mean Jamaica? Are you serious?
